Knowing Vitamins

Vitamins are a group of small molecular weight organic compounds which have a vital function in the metabolism of every organism. This name comes from the combination of the Latin word vita, which means "life" and amine (amine), which refers to an organic group which has a nitrogen atom (N), because at first vitamin considered so. Later in mind that many vitamins are totally devoid of atomic N. There are 13 types of vitamins needed by the body to be able to grow and thrive. These vitamins include vitamins A, C, D, E, K, and B (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, and folate). Despite having a very important role, the body can only produce vitamin D and vitamin K in the form of inactive provitamin. Therefore, the body requires vitamin intake from food we consume. Fruits and vegetables are known for having a high vitamin content and it is very good for the body. Other vitamin supplements can be obtained through food.

If levels of these compounds are insufficient, the body may be susceptible to a disease. The body only needs vitamins in small amounts, but if these needs are ignored then the metabolism in our bodies will be disturbed because the function can not be replaced by another compound. Health disorders is known as the avitaminosis. An example is when we lack of vitamin A then we will have myopia. In addition, vitamin supplements should not be too excessive because it can cause metabolic disturbances in the body.
