Arogy appacha

The anti fatigue properties of the plant 'Arogyappacha '( meaning-green health)seen in the forests of the Agastyamalai hills of Western Ghats in Kerala was only known to the Kani Tribesmen of Western Ghats till recent times. The Kani tribesmen used to eat the fruits of this plant to keep them energetic. In 1987, a team of scientists accidentally came to know about the medicinal value of this plant. The scientists noticed that the tribesmen who accompanied them during a botanical field survey in the Agastyamalai hills, could travel long distances in the hilly areas without having food for days. They ate only some small dry fruits. The scientists also ate the dry fruits offered to them and felt a sudden flush of energy. Soon the scientists conducted detailed chemical and pharmacological investigations on Arogyappacha, the plant from which the tribesmen collected the fruits. It was proved that the leaves and fruits of the plant contained various compounds with immunity-enhancing properties. Now medicines prepared from this wonderful plant is availabe to the outer world.
