We ask ourselves many times why we die nowadays at less than 100 years old while in the Biblical times, in the beginning, people reached hundreds...
Well, there were maybe other day by day life habbits and nutrition customs, or maybe the relationship with God before the New testament times was not of the kind to prepare us to reach Heaven sooner.
What is certain now, starting with 2009, is that researchers based in the USA found that our chromosomes resist perfectly intact when they are protected by telomeres at their ends (Blackburn and Szostak) and that they reproduce themselves endless and perfectly identical helped by the enzyme named telomerase (Carol Greider and Blackburn)
The discovery is obviously useful not only for the anti-ageing mechanism and fight but also in the treatment of cancer (because the telomere deterioration which appears in cancer like a chain process can be controlled by improving the telomerase activity) even if it is known that the decreasing of telomeres and of telomerase activity are somehow by definition a condition for survival. Such possible assumptions prooved to be wrong...
The discovery of the three American scientists can find succesfull applications also against stress and in congenitial aplastic anemia , inflammation or respiratory diseases.
This time the Nobel prize was shared by two women. It was for the first time in the history of Nobel prize.
...And, we are now in 2010, also 2011 will come, and so on....What discovery comes next....?? And who will make it ?
