New Usb Exploit Calls for a Potential Threat

Newly Discovered USB Exploit Can Open A Dangerous Backdoor

All devices with a USB interface can carry a potential to spoil your computer. We mostly connect and use USB Devices including keyboard, mouse, printer, webcam, speakers, sound cards and etc. eto our computers especially on recent years. Then, let's tell about a nice (!) tale while general USB usage has reached to huge amounts:

A hacker group from Canada has announced that they have discovered an exploit which can turn any USB device to a "Hardware Trojan". Plug-n-play tools have a general and common rule: USB device gives information about itself to computer and PC confirms this given identity information "as is". This means, for exp. if a keyboard tells to the PC that it is a "webcam", then the computer registers it as a webcam ! As a result, a stealth and masked USB device can gather and transfer the stored important data. It was reported that John Clart, Sylvain Leblanc and Scott Knight from the Canada Royal Military School have stolen secret information from the main server by modifying the hardware of a keyboard and then transferring it by using Mors alphabet with a blinking led light. Not only harddisks but, FTP and e-mail accounts are under this threat. Hackers can easily modify a hardware device and even an experienced user may not be aware of what is happening.
